One licence, five accreditations, six districts

Varanasi is where the dangerous goods work sits. It holds the licence issued by the Government of Uttar Pradesh, the training hall a batch spends three days in, and the ground where the placarded tanker stands.

The other five are Accredited Driving Training Centres under Rules 31B–31J, listed on the Sarathi portal. 2 are open — Sonbhadra and Bhadohi — and 3 more are going up across three districts of Uttar Pradesh. Each carries a classroom block, a simulator laboratory and an automated test track laid to specification.

Where the HAZMAT work sits

Everything under Rule 9 runs from here. This centre holds the licence to train drivers carrying dangerous and hazardous goods, and it is this centre’s certificate the licensing authority acts on when it places the endorsement.

A three-day batch spends its mornings in the training hall and its afternoons outside on a placarded tanker, doing what cannot be taught from a slide: hose handling, earthing, extinguisher selection, the first five minutes of a leak.

An accredited centre does something a driving school cannot.

A driving school teaches. An accredited centre teaches, then conducts the driving-skill test itself, on its own track and against criteria Rules 31B to 31J fix in advance. Form 11A is the finding, after inspection, that it is equipped to do both.

What each campus actually holds, photographed rather than described, is on the facilities page.

What a centre is required to hold before it may run a course at all, and the courses themselves hour by hour, are on the ADTC courses page.

Which centre should the drivers come to?

Tell us where they are and what they drive, and we will name the nearest open centre — or say whether it makes more sense to bring the batch to your depot.
